Isotretinoin (Accutane)
is one of the proven acne drugs for severe acne and acne that does not respond to other therapies. Isotretinoin (Accutane) effectively clears acne, but one must know more about how to use Isotretinoin (Accutane) and the possible side effects to get the best out of it. Let us discuss all about Isotretinoin (Accutane).

Isotretinoin (Accutane)

Isotretinoin (Accutane) is prescribed for acne treatment. Isotretinoin (Accutane) works in treating acne by shrinking the sebaceous glands and reducing sebum oeuvre. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is anti-inflammatory and removes comedones. The treated skin is dry and inhibits the progress of acne bacteria. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is prescribed in case of severe acne, scarring acne, let up on acne that is not responding to other medication and every case of acne where doctor feels that Isotretinoin (Accutane) should be prescribed to get rid of acne. Isotretinoin (Accutane) may also be familiar for some other conditions that include- folliculitis, seborrhoea, chloracne and other diseases that look like acne. The dosage of Isotretinoin (Accutane) purpose depend upon the severity of acne, body weight, other treatments being occupied at the same time etc. Your doctor is the best person to decide about the portion. Normally the acne treatment begins with small dose and as body adjusts to Isotretinoin (Accutane) the does is increased. Doctors also prepositor the cure during this period and if they findthat patient is not responding, they may stop the therapy. As Isotretinoin (Accutane) needs fat to help its absorption in body, it is taken after food. Please follow your doctors advise about these.

Accutane (Isotretinoin) is one of Hoffman-LaRoche’s most popular and controversial pharmaceuticals. Doctors prescribe Accutane (Isotretinoin) for patients with severe nodular acne that does not respond to systemic treatments with antibiotics.

Hoffman-LaRoche, following FDA guidelines, lists depression as a possible Accutane (Isotretinoin) side effect. Notwithstanding, the link between Isotretinoin (Accutane) and the development of depression and/or suicide remains marred.

Dr. Bremner’s Roaccutane swotting involved 28 healthy men and women between the ages of 18 and 50. During the review, brain function of the subjects was measured using positron emission tomography (PET) previously and after four months of treatment with Isotretinoin (Accutane). Isotretinoin (Accutane) treatment was associated with decreased discernment metabolism in the orbitofrontal cortex- the area of the brain known to mediate symptoms of despondency. Yet, there were no differences in severity of depressive symptoms between the Isotretinoin (Accutane) and antibiotic treatment groups ahead of or after acne treatment. The study concluded that Isotretinoin (Accutane) treatment is associated with changes in capacity function. Dr. Bremner’s findings call for further investigation of the acne drug Isotretinoin (Accutane). Nonetheless, insufficient funding may impede such a study. The American Academy of Dermatology wants clinical trials to show that Isotretinoin (Accutane) causes depression or “psychiatric events” previous it encourages stronger warnings and tighter reegulations of the acne drug. Yet, the FDA does not have the funding to cover the testing.

The FDA is strengthening its endanger minimization action plan (RiskMAP) for Accutane (Isotretinoin) and generic version of Isotretinoin (Accutane) in hopes of reducing the odds of birth defects associated with fetal exposure to the acne drug. Women whim now have to present negative pregnancy tests before filling their Isotretinoin (Accutane) preparation each month.

Some dermatologists have practiced this pregnancy monitoring without prodding from the FDA. This new appraisal makes no mention of depression or suicide that may result from Isotretinoin (Accutane) use. Dr. Bremner adds that patients taking Isotretinoin (Accutane) have to be asked relating to depression, they don’t just openly talk about it. Discussing symptoms of the dumps is an added measure that doctors prescribing Isotretinoin (Accutane) can make to ensure the in fine-being of their patients.
